Active Teams
Community Office Center

This team is embarking on a new five-year goal to develop a physical plant/facility for non-retail office space with internet access and shared support staff.

Resource Development

A new action team has been established to work on creating the structures and methods to have the financial resources to accomplish the goals of the community. For more information, contact Bill Johnson or the Community Development office.

Marketing Team

A new goal has been created focused on efficiently marketing the community to increase the population and student enrollment by 3% by 2010. For more information, contact the Community Development office.

Community & Recreation Action Team

The Community & Recreation Action Team has explored the possibility of creating a multi-purpose recreation/activity center. After further research, the group has moved to looking at ways to better utilize existing facilities and encourage community involvement.  They have created the Greeley County Recreation Foundation which will oversee all year-round recreation programs and facilitites for ages.

Downtown Revitalization

Through the efforts of the Downtown Revitalization Team, the City of Tribune, and several business people, the Bennett Building was torn down, and an available lot for a new building on Broadway opened up.  Downtown Revitalization team members arranged for a group called First Impressions to visit Tribune and provide feedback on their experiences here. Team members also coordinated the annual Christmas medallion hunt and were hard at work at two basketball concession stands to raise funds for future downtown enhancements.

Health & Human Services

The Health and Human Services Action Team worked to grow and improve healthcare opportunities in the area.  They formed a welcoming committee to help integrate new providers and their families into the community and assisted with a healthcare education day in October. They researched, prioritized, and developed an acquisition plan for equipment needs, and continue to study and assist the local healthcare entities adapt to changing trends in the field. They also assisted with the process to end Great Plains’ management of the local facilities.

Retirement Services

The Retirement Services Action team developed a “senior services” program that would provide assistance to individuals in the community who need help taking care of everyday tasks – mowing lawns, cleaning their homes, etc.  They are currently in the paperwork stage, but hope to have the program up and running this spring. Team members also traveled to surrounding communities to study patio housing facilities and investigate the possibilities for a similar operation in Greeley County.

Retired Teams
City & County Unification

Because of the efforts of the City and County Unification Team, county commissioners and city council members voted to approve a joint resolution authorizing further study of unifying the two governments if city and county voters approve the additional research in the next election.  They promoted and assisted with the creation of a bill to the Kansas State Legislature which allows Greeley County to continue with the process if voters feel it is in the area’s best interest. After the bill passed, responsibilities were handed over to the Greeley County, City of Tribune, and City of Horace-appointed study team.

Social & Ethnic Integration

The Social and Ethnic Integration Action Team worked to discover and address the cultural diversity within Greeley County.  They assisted in increasing the amount of Spanish and bilingual reading material and notices at the library and also developed plans to assist with upcoming multi-cultural events and programs in the community.

The Welcoming Committee

The members of the Welcoming Committee developed prototypes for a new residents’ packet, a community brochure, and a welcome basket for new individuals in the area.  They began a welcome-wagon calling chain and helped develop an ambassador program to give tours to new and prospective residents.
